Spartans Make History

Saturday November 15th, the lady Spartans traveled to Lake Forest, Illinois to take on the Concordia Moorehead Cobbers, in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

The Spartans have been to the NCAA tournament 10 times and have never been able to make it out of the first round, but on Saturday everything would change. The Spartans ended up making history, and won the game six minutes into overtime.

The Spartans would finally advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history. On Sunday the Spartans would take on undefeated Lake Forest. Once again the Spartans would win in overtime advancing to the Sweet Sixteen.

The Lady Spartans are now set to play Centre College at University of Chicago, on Saturday November 22nd in the Sweet Sixteen. The Spartans are looking to hopefully advance to play the winner of Illinois Wesleyan and Chicago on Sunday November 23rd, in the Elite Eight.

Senior Day leads to a shutout

Your Aurora Spartans played the Marian Sabres Friday Oct. 17th where the Spartans honored their six seniors. Your seniors played their last game at Vago Field and left with a victory. The Spartans came out with a 3-0 win over Marian.

Senior Spartans: (right to left) Lisa Bajkowski, Christine Rohling, Megan Burger, Brittany Roydhouse, Lorelei Ritzert, and Mariah Stacy

Going into half-time the Spartans only had a 1-0 lead over the Sabres, with a goal from Nicci Bermudes. Coming out of the locker room the Spartans kept the lead going with a beautiful cross from Lorelei Ritzert that met the head of Brittany Roydhouse, where the ball found the back of the net.

A couple minutes later Nicci Bermudes had another goal for the day from another great cross from Lorelei Ritzert. Your Spartans are currently 12-3-1 and 8-0 in the NACC.

Just rewinding to the awesome memories of the NACC Championship games against Edgewood College in 2012 and 2013. Where the AU Spartans were named NACC CHAMPS!

"I am a member of a team, and I rely on the team, and I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion."---Mia Hamm
